I like the video. Takes the scriptures and pushes them right back in Beck's face. Its the height of pious BS for Beck to denigrate the mission and work of Christian churches all over the nation trying to minister to God's children. That he even fixed his mouth to utter this provocative trash strongly suggests to me that his own Christian understanding is perhaps quite suspect. I have a hard time understanding why anyone who is a practicing believer and active in the body of their own church would issue this nonsense point of view for purposes of being provocative and selling more books and cable air time. Oh, that's why. I guess I do understand.
I think the point he was trying to make is that we are called to perform charity, not social justice, one is done out of the goodness of your heart, the other is done because the government takes the money from you to give to whoever they choose.
ReplyDeleteI disagree. Churches ministering to the poor and hurting isn't about government taking money from people to give to someone else. Churches work with the poor and the needy out of their own resources all the time and have been doing so since forever. The church is not the government. If he wants to attack the government on that score, go right ahead. But people give to churches so they can minister to people. He delivers a blanket condemnation based on the terminology used, making a specious connection to Hitler and Stalin, because they used the same two words. Thats bogus on its face. Exterminating a race of people isn't social justice, no matter what Hitler called it. The comparison to church ministry is ridiculous and intended only to be inflammatory.
