However, I'm not sure there is any evidence to suggest that it is true. This particular rumor has been making the rounds since at least 2005, and appears no closer to coming to fruition.

Bush's negatives are so strong at this point that dumping Cheney now would do little to lift them. So while he may indeed be politically toxic, I can't see any tremendous gain to be had from dumping him at this point, and in fact some political downside.

The only rationale for doing it in my view would be if indeed Condi were going to be on the ticket. The theory behind this is that she is so impressive a candidate and her status as the first black american to become vice president would give her an impregnable position and really take away the wind from the sails of an Obama or Hillary run.

However, this theory does have problems. Condi so far has given no indication that she wants to run. Secondly, some have made the case that after the Senate Foreign Relations Committee grilling she got, that she is now "Fried Rice", intimately associated with a failed war effort and failed policies. Why would anyone put her at the top of a ticket?

In my view, Condi is still an outstanding person to have on the ticket. But this rumor may not have any more legs now than it did when it first started circulating.Political Seasonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09609253738367441591noreply@blogger.com
