Why Barack Obama should run for president in 2008

Ryan Lizza's arguement for an Obama run boils down to this: Now is his best shot, it won't ever get any better. His argument has the virtue I think of being true, but unfortunatley irrevelant. While his relative short time on the scene may work for him in a run, it won't help him win the Democratic nomination, because he doesn't have the political machine to fight the Clinton's and win. His run would be like the Lamont/Lieberman primary. Lamont may have won the primary, but his left wing agenda was not going to carry the day for the real election and I think Obama is the same deal. Say he wins the Democratic nomination, that is not the same as winning the presidency, and in the end, I believe his lack of a national record will read as too much of a risky unknown for the top spot when the country has so much on the line.
