Is This Racist?

That's the way fellow blogger Cobb frames his question about the Tea Party member pictured below.  I'd like to frame the question differently:

Based solely on the information in this photograph, would it be reasonable, justified or warranted to question the character of this man or draw the conclusion that bias, prejudice or stereotypes play a role in what he says and how he behaves?

Leave your answer Yes or No and why you think so in the comments.

Well, wait a minute Angela. I don't think he's unworthy of attention or should be dismissed, at least not so easily. The crux of some of the debate about the Tea Party is whether or not they are a group fairly characterized as generally biased or prejudiced as it relates to minorities. The photo raises the issue nicely because you can ask questions like "were his fellow Tea Party members okay with this sign?". If I polled 1000 Tea Party members, what percentage of them would be comfortable/uncomfortable with the way he altered the logic of the equation?"

You may be right, perhaps it is all a distraction, with the Tea Party perhaps being the most distracted of them all. I've seen it suggested elsewhere and I'm warming to the idea that rather than being the defenders of freedom and capitalism they think, they are more like Obama, namely a bunch of corporatists.
I would say yes. If he had changed the last part to "slave" I would have been okay with it.

I agree with you Phelps. His change up to the equation was a bridge to far, justifying him getting the racial side eye, notwithstanding the fact that I bet he's a more than reasonable enough guy (in general) for me to sit down and have a beer with.
