The nominations for the Black Weblog Awards are open until today (July 25th) and I want to get on the board this year. Nominate the Season right now, then come back and read the rest of the post.
The Black Weblog Awards was founded in 2005 to give recognition to Black bloggers (and of the African Diaspora) which were largely overlooked by other Internet award events. The Black Weblog Awards is an international showcase with participants from over 90 countries and stands out as the most widespread Internet award event for Black bloggers. To date, the Black Weblog Awards has recognized nearly 180 blogs in over 30 categories, and has also been featured in several mainstream and online media outlets, including NPR.
You don't get any money. In the big scheme of things, I'm not really sure who pays attention. But like the NAACP Image Awards or some of the ethnic specific award shows on TV, this is more of a peer thing and so I'd kinda like to make the cut. The Season has never gotten enough nominations to be a contender in any category in the past. And if you take a look at all the past winners in the Best Political and News Blog category, every one of them has been from the liberal, progressive left leaning side of the political spectrum. The Field Negro blog has won the best political blog three years running. C'mon, really? We don't all only think with the left sides of our brain politically, but you would never know that to look at the award winners in the political/news category. I'd like to be the black blog that got recognized by the awards for representing a more conservative black perspective, because we are not all down with every liberal left wing point of view, we just get portrayed that way.
I want to get on the board this year, but its not entirely in my power to make it happen. Its mostly in yours, dear reader. The awards are judged, but its also at least a 50% popularity contest, which means you have to campaign. So I'm asking for your vote to nominate me. Are you with me? Help a brother out.
You can nominate the Season in multiple categories and I'll suggest a few:
Best writing in a blog
Blog to watch
Best political or news blog
Aaron Hawkins award (for bloggers who have been blogging since 2005)
All the categories are listed here. Nominate the Season right now.
